Javier Arias-Camisón is the Founding Partner and Head of MALCOM LAW. Born in Bilbao, he obtained his Law degree from the University of Salamanca and subsequently completed a Master’s Degree in Maritime and Admiralty Law at the European Institute of Maritime Studies. He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association and practises throughout the whole of Spain.
His strong maritime vocation is evidenced by his membership of the Spanish Maritime Law Association (the national branch of the Comité Maritime International) and the Latin American Institute of Maritime Law.
While Javier advises across the full spectrum of shipping and admiralty law, his practice focuses in particular on advising leading financial institutions, shipowners and shipyards on ship finance, newbuilding projects and tax structures, vessel sale and registration, and ship mortgages and other maritime securities.
In addition, he is widely recognised as an experienced litigator and arbitration practitioner and regularly advises leading shipowners and marine insurers in claims conducted in Spain. He has been described as “highly recommended” and as an “undisputed leader” in the Spanish shipping market by The Legal 500.
Javier is a frequent press contributor and lectures ship management on the Master’s Programme in Maritime Law at the Spanish Maritime Institute. He is fluent in Spanish and English.
